Simone Monsi

Fiorenzuola d’Arda (PC), 1988. Lives in London

Monsi (http://simonemonsi.altervista.org) describes himself as a YIBA (Young Internet-Based Artist), whose preferred mediums are installations, videos and Internet. He explores youth cultures, their sensibilities, and the way in which they experience eroticism and self-representation on social networks. This practice is rooted in his constant presence on social media and microblogging platforms, from which he borrows images and content. Monsi’s current research reflects the attitude of a generation that finds itself “defenseless against a self-replicating present in which we have lost all opportunity to produce a coherent account of reality, and which leaves us confused and uncertain as we await a redemption promised so many times but which never seems to come.” He recently completed an MFA at Goldsmiths, University of London.
