Arena’s art consists of nomadic and long-term processes of research. By accumulating materials, layering and assembling them, he creates condensed narrative structures and visual imagery.The artist was one of the winners of the XXIV Premio Nazionale Arti Visive Città di Gallarate and is currently a finalist in the Premio MAXXI 2016. His solo shows have included: VAVILON | Project C ‒ Solovki Islands, Viafarini, Milan (2015); Four Times a Tree, 1918 Art Space, Shanghai (2008). He has taken part in the following group shows: The Plough, and Other Stars, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (2016); The Man Who Sat On Himself, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (2015); Growing Roots, Fondazione Furla, Milan (2015); Scenario di terra, Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto (2014); Arimortis, Museo del Novecento, Milan (2013). He has presented his video work at Athens Video Art Festival; Les Urbaines (Lausanne); Palais De Glace (Buenos Aires); The Mobile Archive, Stacion ‒ Center for Contemporary Art (Prishtina).
